U.S. DOT regulation (49§CFR 172.604) which became effective on December 31, 1990requires any company offering hazardous materials for inter-state, or intra-state shipments,to list a 24-hour emergency contact telephone number on all hazardous material shipping papers.Only companies that are registered with a 24-hour emergency response company, and comply withtheir requirements are authorized to place that emergency telephone number on their hazardousmaterial shipping papers and/or their material safety data sheets.If your company is shipping HAZMAT with no 24-hour emergency contact, or is using an unauthorizedemergency number without being registered, you're not in compliance with DOT regulations,and could be liable for thousands in fines, or worse.
